Flavors of the Avenue
East
Passyunk Avenue is one of the best neighborhoods/streets in the entire country
for restaurants. There are award winning restaurants on every corner, and it
simply keeps getting better and better. One of the best food festivals in the
city is the Flavors of the Avenue that brings together the best that East
Passyunk has to offer in one small tent. My fiancé and I headed over with VIP
tickets on a day when I was absurdly hungover, almost to the point that I
wasn’t sure I was going to be able to eat. With the VIP tickets, you gained
access to the tent an hour earlier than everyone else, and also access to the
cocktail tent.
Even
with just the VIP ticket holders inside, it was absolutely packed. We made out
way around to the different tables and indulged in as much as we could. With
superstar chefs like Nicholas Elmi, Joncarl Lachman, Joe Cicala, Townsend Wentz
and all of the other amazing participants from East Passyunk, there was more
than a fair share of delicious bites to dig into.
There
was many variations of chicken liver mousse handed out that day from places
like Fond, Laurel and Townsend. There were margaritas and tacos from Cantina
Los Caballitos, roast pork with an aioli from chicken nachos from El Sarape,
deep fried meatballs from Noord, delicious green pea soup from Will BYOB, pasta
from Mamma Maria's and the list goes on and on. It is one of the best festivals
offered around the city in the food realm, and its usually on a great weather
day at the end of April as well, the perfect change up from the doldrums of
winter weather that we have just been put through.
This
is definitely one of the best street festivals in Philly. It is well run and
affordable, and the sheer talent of the restaurants involved is unmatched.
Great value, great food and great people make for a killer time. I will go back
year after year! Cheers!
