Pizzeria Beddia
115 East Girard Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19125
From
the day I first heard that there was a pizza shop in Northern Liberties where
the owner was slinging every pie that came out of the oven, I have to say I was
intrigued. Joe Beddia makes the rules at his pizza restaurant, and if you
don’t follow them, you wont get to taste the best that Philly has to offer.
There is no phone, so you cant call ahead for pickup. Its cash only. There are
no sit down tables, so you cant come in for a nice sit-down dinner. There are
only three pizzas to choose from, with various toppings that can be added or
subtracted. This isn’t your average pizza joint, but you don’t want it to be.
My
fiancé and I went one Friday after work right at 5:30 to make sure we would get
a pie. Some dude got there right before us and ordered 12 pizzas, so
unfortunately we had to wait a while for ours. We put our name and order in and
walked over to Johnny Brenda’s to grab a drink and an appetizer while we waited
the hour we had to wait. We decided on the white pizza which came with
spinach, ricotta, garlic, cream and chile and we added sausage too it for a bit
more. We went back at the time our pizza was supposed to be ready and we
watched Joe put it in the box so we could take it home.
The
white pizza we got was incredible. It held up extremely
well in the box on the drive home, which is definitely a testament to how good
the pizza is. Definitely the best white pizza I have ever had. And I dont even
know where to begin with the crust. Crispy. Check. Light. Check. Perfect amount
of chew. Check. Flavorful. Check. I could keep going, but Ill stop.
Four
pints for Pizzeria Beddia. I was very skeptical of this place to begin with,
but I have to say it really does live up to the hype. Its amazing to see Joe
Beddia working his magic in the kitchen. It truly is art what he does with the
pizzas. Yes its pricier than a lot of places, and yes the wait time sucks sometimes,
but there are so many bars right there, go grab yourself a drink and enjoy
yourself because I promise you the wait for the pizza is worth it. I wish it
was closer to me because I would frequent it much more often! Unusual wait and place, but incredible pizza.
Check it out and let me know what you think! Cheers!
